Refund in IPO FAQs

Through ECS why am I not getting my refund?

ECS ( Electronic Clearing Service), or direct deposit to a bank account, is a popular way of getting refunds now-a-days. They are quick, inexpensive, and simple to process. ECS was allowed by SEBI to be used for IPO refunds starting in Jan 2006. They began with 15 major cities, and gradually moved to other cities. Here are some facts about ECS.

  • The IPO Registrar is not required to send ECS refund amounts.
  • The registrar can choose the city where they wish to send money via ECS, and then send any remaining refunds by registered mail.
  • Even if ECS was issued in your area by registrar, it is possible that the bank information provided may not be correct. You might not receive a refund via ECS. If the bank account information is incorrect or incomplete, the registrar will send you a cheque to refund.
  • ECS requires that your bank account be located in the same city as the registrar who will issue refunds through ECS.
