Somehow I have received two PAN cards. How to return or close the duplicate one?

Detail: I applied for a Pan Card many days ago. However, I did not receive the card. So I contacted NSDlcenter to apply for a new card. It was delivered in just 8 days. Within a few days, I received another card that I had previously applied for. How do I return a card?

Two things are different here. You have a Permanent Account Number (PAN), and a PAN card. Two PAN Cards are available. Check to make sure that both cards have the exact same PAN number. You are fine if the number is identical. There is no need to do anything. Both cards can be kept.

If you have two cards with the same PAN numbers, you must surrender one card as soon as possible.

It is illegal for any person or company to possess more than one PAN number. Income Tax Department may take legal action against you or impose financial penalties if you are caught.

This happened accidentally with you. Here are some ways to surrender your duplicate PAN number:

  1. Submitting an Application Manually
  • Send a note regarding this effect to your assessing officer, clarifying that you are surrendering your duplicate PAN. You must include your name, contact details and details of your PAN Card, and details of any duplicate PAN Cards you wish to return.
  • Manually fill the Form No. 49A for correction/change in PAN. Fill the form manually and return it to your nearest UTI pan center or NSDL TIN Facilitation center. Refer to point 10. You can also fill in the extra PAN number that you wish to cancel on this form. Mark the box next to point 10.
